Why relationships in the classroom are so important. |
Building relationships and creating a classroom culture where students feel safe should be one the most important goals for future educators. As teachers, we cannot teach our students content, self-regulation, or life skills without first forming meaningful relationships with every individual in our classrooms. Students are far more likely to listen, to demonstrate respect for themselves and others, and to take responsibility for their learning when they feel as though their teachers care authentically and deeply about their wellbeing. Though every child is unique, all children need to be immersed into a secure, caring, and stimulating environment in order to grow emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially.
We must encourage our students to express themselves, to feel confident, and to demonstrate empathy. We play a large role in shaping these little humans, and it is our responsibility to ensure that our students learn to respect one another. |
